Kidblog In a Classroom

Because it is vital as educators that we use technology in our classroom, we must always be aware of the evolving and changing technologies that we can utilize to make our classroom as enriching as possible. One website I found that would be great in a classroom is Kidblog. Kidblog is a free website teachers can use in their classrooms, and students can also join for free. The website does not make students give any personal information and there are no ads. Because it is safe and reliable, many teachers use it to get their students more involved.

Kidblog is a free blogging site all students can sign up for free of charge. Once on the website, they can blog from anywhere, including their phones and iPads. Teachers can use the website to start discussions and have the students answer, whether in class or for homework. They can also create presentations and display them on the website; overall, this is a great tool to have. In an English classroom this would be great because you could start a discussion in class, and then have the students complete it for homework.

This website is a great tool to help students be more engaged in a classroom. Almost four million students have already joined, and that number will likely continue to rise once people realize how amazing this site really is.

  1. This sounds like it would be a lot of fun for students. Blogs are the new sort of diary or journal, because we all know not to put our personal information on the internet. For students who do not like writing this would be great for. Personally typing is rather imitating to me and sort of hurts. I prefer handwriting but that is why technology is great we can have it both ways!

This sounds like a very useful tool to integrate into a Language Arts classroom. While the school I am at currently uses google docs, which is very beneficial for document sharing and editing, it is not as helpful for scaffolding or commenting on fellow student's ideas or works. This could be very helpful for commenting and questioning after reading articles, especially considering the push from common core as well as standardized testing for reading and writing about informational texts.

  3. This can be a great tool for students to keep an online journal. Instead of writing in a journal notebook the students can blog about different topics the teacher assigns. I think the teacher will need to assign topics because since it is online we do not want students to write things that may hurt them or someone. In any case, blogging is a motivator for students to think of themselves as writers. They may not know it but when you blog you are taking on the duties of an active write. I think this is a great tool for students in an English class!

  4. Kaitlyn,
I think it is so important for students to blog in the classroom. This will make students so much more engaged with their classmates and the information they are working with. In a social studies class, it is very important for students to be engaged because the material can become boring at some points. I believe blogging in the class can change this boring environment in the social studies class. This kidblog website sounds like a great tool to incorporate blogging into the class since it is safe and free of charge. I also agree with Ana's idea of an online journal so students can reflect on their classroom experience and the information. I would do online journals as homework for my students over the weekend so they can reflect on the entire week as a review of the information they learned. I did not realize how useful blogging can be until I took this class and I see how it really helps incorporate technology into the classroom. I think kidblog is a great tool like blogger but safer for students that are in the middle school and high school levels.
